Elsa Baker received a B.A. in Fine Arts with emphasis on painting from the University of New Orleans in 1980. She received her teaching certification from Loyola University in 1981 and in 1983 pursued graduate studies in Studio Art at Tulane University.
Elsa has had a long history of exhibiting her work, having had several solo and many group shows. She has won top awards and honors at numerous juried exhibits throughout the New Orleans metropolitan area, including the Louisiana Open Exhibition and several others at the New Orleans Contemporary Art Center.
Prior to moving to the North Shore in 1993, Ms. Baker taught art at Metairie Park Country Day School for eleven years, where she developed their Art History curriculum and also taught studio art. She also pioneered the teaching of Computer Graphics in the classroom, having developed and presented workshops at several school conferences in the South.
Her work is part of the Pan American Life Center art collection, has been purchased multiple times by the St. Tammany Parish Commission on Cultural Affairs, and is found in the homes of many local and out-of-state art collectors.
